The 3 small villages are embedded in the typical wine landscape of the river Etsch with castles and estates and also the cellars belonging to them. They can be reached on foot along the high trail through the forest or in the valley floor through the vineyards and orchards. wine-events

we love wines
Grapevines surround our house, the next hikes lead to the wineries in the surrounding area. We are also not far from the South Tyrolean wine route. So what are you waiting for? Let’s go!
Between events, trainings, WineSafari, guided excursions and wine bike routes there is always something going on around the topic of wine…
small and large wineries
We like them all: small or big… but the most personal relation to the wine, its cultivation and maturation can be obtained by visiting one of the small wine growers in the area… it is worth it!
Kaltern, Eppan and Tramin
3 typical places along the South Tyrolean Wine Road, where you can experience the theme of WINE from A-Z. Wine connoisseur or not: this is the right place for you!

Lake Kalterer See: The lake is 1.8 km long, 0.9 km wide and at its deepest point 5.6 m deep. The area is 1.47 km². It lies 4 km south of the market town of Kaltern. Lake Kaltern is one of the largest lakes in South Tyrol and – together with Lake Klopeiner See – is considered the warmest bathing lake in the Alps. The water temperature in summer is up to 28 °C, the bathing season is from May to September. The east and west banks are mainly developed for tourism, the south bank is reeded. There are several lidos, the lake is only accessible free of charge in the evenings, between 19.00 and 21.00 from the jetty of the “Lido” lido. The KS can be reached by car (parking is charged), by lake bus or on foot (just walk from the house along the wine path to the end, then turn left).
Lake Montiggler: The large Montiggler Lake lies in the middle of the Montiggl nature reserve with its beautiful mixed forest in the municipality of Appiano at 492 metres above sea level. It has a shoreline of just over 2 kilometres and its surface area measures about 18 hectares. At its deepest point it is 11.5 metres deep. To the north-east it is partly surrounded by rocky terrain, with the area turning into a swamp on the opposite side. According to analyses, the lake has very good values with regard to its water quality and is therefore also one of the most popular bathing lakes in South Tyrol. In the western part of the lake there are hotels, restaurants and a public swimming pool “Lido” with swimming pools and a bathing jetty. Around the Montiggler lakes there is also a hiking trail, along which you can always find cosy places to cool off or relax. For pedestrians and cyclists a new wooden footbridge has been created by the reed belt, where the fauna of the biotope can be observed undisturbed. Very close by is the Seeschlössl, which rises out of the reeds like a fairytale castle. The small Montiggler Lake is embedded in a forest and hilly landscape at 514 metres above sea level. Many different hiking trails lead to the lake. It has a shoreline of 890 metres and is only 5 hectares in size. This makes it considerably smaller than the large Montiggler See, but deeper, with a maximum depth of almost 15 metres. According to analyses, the lake has very good values with regard to its water quality and is therefore also one of the most popular bathing lakes in South Tyrol. Since it cannot be reached directly by car, the Little Montiggler Lake is particularly favourable for an absolute recreation factor and for everyone who prefers to relax in the middle of nature. Part of the lake is occupied by a small bathing establishment with a lawn for sunbathing and a small snack station. Around the lake there is a hiking trail, along which you can always find cosy places to cool off or relax. The lakes can be reached by car or by numerous hiking trails. The Kleiner Montiggler See can be reached on foot or with a shuttle. In order to avoid parking problems, a lake and hiking bus runs to Montiggl and back in the summer time.
Lake Fennberger (Fenner): The jewel of Unterfennberg is indisputably the small Fennberger (or Fenner) bathing lake. Over 35 species of orchids, crayfish and other animal and plant species find protected habitat in the 10 ha biotope around the Fenner Lake. Water lilies and dragonflies appear as living jewels near the shore. Although the lake is designated as a biotope with unusual flora and fauna, a small jetty offers the opportunity to swim in the silky moor water with a panoramic view of the small church and the surrounding mountains. Accessible by car, via hiking trails or via the Fennberger Klettersteig, the plateau offers numerous opportunities for walking and two inns. The plateau is also recommendable as a destination for a bike tour, be it for mountain bikers, motorcyclists or racing cyclists. To reach: from the wine route through Kurtatsch to Unterfennberg (approx. 13 km).
Bathing lake Wolfsgrubener See: The Wolfsgrubener See is idyllically situated at the edge of the forest and is a very popular excursion destination for young and old on the Ritten. Bathing time from June to September, free of charge with RittenCard. From Bozen with the Rittner cable car in 12 minutes panoramic journey to Oberbozen and further with the Rittner narrow-gauge railway to Wolfsgruben. From the Wolfsgruben stop an easy 10-minute walk to the idyllically situated Wolfsgruben Lake. Rittner cable car: every 4 minutes a gondola leaves the station. Last ride with the Rittner cable car at 22:45. Rittner narrow-gauge railway: a half-hourly interval from 9:40 to 19:00, in the morning and evening an hourly interval until 22:20.
Göllersee: In Aldein there is a small bathing lake, the Göllersee, which lies almost like a fairy tale in the middle of the forest. Nearby are panoramic points such as Rotwand and Burgstallegg, from which you can look out over the entire Adige Valley and the South Tyrolean lowlands. The lake can be reached in about 30 minutes on foot from the Aldein fire station via hiking trail no. 17b. Swimming and hiking in one!

IT’S RAINING!!! WHAT TO DO?
We are happy about short and abundant rain showers – they are good for nature and air. But what to do when a whole rainy day is reported?
Basically you can do most of the outdoor activities that are also possible in sunshine (rainwear is welcome), with the advantage that there will be very few people around. But beware! Indoor offers are the hit on such days! So be sure to book tickets in advance (online) or leave early.
